Chapter History

The Lambda Delta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was chartered by 11 dynamic leaders with a "technology centric" approach in Annapolis, Maryland on May 16, 2010. Public service, leadership development and education of youth are the heartbeat of this chapter’s programs, activities and services provided to the Anne Arundel County community. With sisterhood and service at its core, the Lambda Delta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. continues to become a leading service organization within Anne Arundel County. With over 100 members from varied professions, Lambda Delta Sigma is adequately prepared and is steadfast in its passion for meaningful community service that helps individuals and families thrive in the Anne Arundel County community.

Sorority History

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University. Since its inception, the dynamic women of Sigma Gamma Rho have built and sustained a well-known and well-respected reputation for leading positive change to help uplift the community through sisterhood, leadership, and service.
